About this Tool

This online temperature conversion tool converts one unit of temperature to another unit of temperature. It converts Celsius (°C) to Fahrenheit (°F), kelvin (K), Rankine, Newton, Delisle, Réaumur and Rømer.

Celsius

The Celsius is the most common temperature scale. The boiling point of water is 100 °C. The freezing point is 0 °C. The word centigrade is used in many languages to describe Celsius.

Fahrenheit

The Fahrenheit scale is named after Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit, who invent alcohol and mercury thermometers. The boiling point is 212 °F and freezing point of water is 32 °F.

Kelvin

The kelvin, symbol K, is the primary unit of temperature adopted by the International System of Units. . The Kelvin scale named after the University of Glasgow based engineer and physicist William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin. Absolute zero is 0 K, equivalent to -273.15 °C.

Kelvin scale Formula: K = °C + 273

Rankine

This scale is named after the Scottish physicist William John Macquorn Rankine. It works similarly to kelvin absolute zero is 0 °R, equivalent to -459.67 °F and Rankine uses the same interval as Fahrenheit.

Delisle:

Delisle was invented by a French astronomer Joseph-Nicolas Delisle. The Delisle scale places the water freezing point at 150 °D, and water boiling point at 0 °D.

Newton

The Newton scale, was invented by Isaac Newton. 0 °N was defined by Newton to be the temperature of melting snow and 33 °N, the temperature of boiling water.

Réaumur

Réaumur scale places water freezing point at 0 °Ré and water boiling point at 80 °Ré. It was named after a French entomologist René Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur

Rømer:

This scale places the water freezing point at 7.5 °Rø and a Rømer degree is equivalent to 40/21 of a Celsius degree. It is named after danish astronomer Ole Christensen Rømer who made the first measurement of the speed of light in 1676.

Formulas to convert Celsius to other units

F = (c * (9 / 5) + 32)

K = c + 273.15

R = ((c + 273.15) * 9) / 5

N = (c * 33) / 100

De = ((100 – c) * (3 / 2))

Re = (c * (4 / 5)

Ro = (c * (21 / 40) + 7.5)

Where:

c = Celsius

F = Fahrenheit

K = Kelvin

R = Rankine

N = Newton

De = Delisle

Re = Reaumur

Ro = Romer
